Jelena Kunovac, M.D., M.S.

Jelena is a Founder and Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer of Altea Research in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also a Co-Founder, President and CEO of Excell Research and Southern California Women’s Psychiatry, private facilities dedicated to clinical care and psychopharmacology research in Oceanside, California. She brings to Altea Research and Excell Research close to 20 years of clinical trial experience.

Dr. Kunovac has participated in over 200 clinical trials in the CNS area, mostly as a Principal Investigator. She conducts Phase II to IV studies, focusing on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety disorders.

Dr. Kunovac has authored and co-authored over 30 scientific journal articles in peer reviewed journals and has published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, the British Journal of Psychiatry, the American Journal of Psychiatry, the Journal of Affective Disorders and the Psychiatric Clinics of North America. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Journal Innovations in Psychiatry. Recently, she has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of Nevada Psychiatric Association.

Mustafa Rawaf, D.O.

Dr. Mustafa Rawaf is an Associate Medical Director for Altea Research. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychobiology at the University of California Los Angeles. He then received a Master’s Degree in Medical Science from Boston University, where his thesis on racial disparities in treatment of hypertension was published in the Journal of the National Medical Association. He went on to earn his Medical Degree at Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, CA. Mustafa relocated to Las Vegas in 2010 to complete his residency training in psychiatry at the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year of residency. Upon completing his residency program, Dr. Rawaf joined Focus Mental Health Solutions, a group which works to fill the large gap of psychiatric care in Las Vegas, particularly in the inpatient and emergency room settings. He has been a Sub-Investigator for conducting clinical trials at Altea Research since 2013, where he now serves as Associate Medical Director. Fluent in Spanish and Arabic, Dr. Rawaf is passionate about working in underserved communities and indigent populations. His areas of special interest include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and consult liaison psychiatry.
